Two monsoons shape the year: the dry north-east monsoon from roughly November to April, and the wetter, breezier south-west monsoon from about May to October. When is the best time to visit the Maldives?
December to April is the driest, sunniest part of the year and the most reliable time to visit. January to March is the classic peak window, with calm seas and excellent underwater visibility. If you want the same warmth for less, look at late April, May, October and November.
What is the rainy season in the Maldives?
The south-west monsoon runs roughly from May to October. Rain usually arrives as short, heavy showers rather than all-day grey, and daytime temperatures stay around 30C. Seas can be choppier and there is more wind, especially June to August.
Which is the cheapest month to go to the Maldives?
Rates are generally at their lowest between May and September, outside the UK school holidays. Late April and early December often give the best balance of dry-season weather and shoulder-season pricing.
When can you swim with manta rays and whale sharks?
Manta rays gather in large numbers at Hanifaru Bay in Baa Atoll between roughly June and November. Whale sharks are seen year round in South Ari Atoll, which is why many divers travel outside the peak season.
