Malta Holidays 2027

Three-and-a-half hours from the UK, English-speaking, sunny from April to November and packed with history — Malta is one of the easiest short-haul holidays you can book.

Malta, Gozo and Comino make up a tiny archipelago in the middle of the Mediterranean with a huge amount to do. You can spend the morning in the honey-coloured streets of Valletta, the afternoon swimming off a lido in Sliema and the evening eating rabbit stew in a village square.

It suits families, couples and multi-generation groups because everything is close together — nowhere on the island is more than about 45 minutes from the airport — and English is an official language, so signage, menus and medical care are all straightforward.

Malta holidays — your questions answered

Best areas to stay in Malta

Sliema & St Julian's — the busiest base, with seafront promenades, shopping, ferries to Valletta and the nightlife of Paceville. Qawra & Bugibba — the best value for families and all-inclusive hotels, with a flat promenade, water park and plenty of restaurants. Mellieħa — quieter and greener, above Malta's largest sandy beach — good for families who want a beach rather than a lido. Valletta — boutique hotels in a UNESCO capital, best for couples and culture-first trips. Gozo — farmhouses and small resorts for a slower, rural stay, reached by a 25-minute ferry.

Best Malta hotels for families

Our most-booked family hotels in Malta are db Seabank Resort + Spa in Mellieħa, Dolmen Hotel in Qawra, AX Sunny Coast Resort in Qawra and Radisson Blu Resort St Julian's. We match the hotel to your children's ages, tell you honestly which pools, kids' clubs and room types actually work for families, and can hold rooms while you decide.

Best all-inclusive hotels in Malta

For all-inclusive we recommend db Seabank Resort + Spa, Dolmen Hotel, Ramla Bay Resort and Solana Hotel & Spa in Mellieħa. All-inclusive standards vary hugely — ask us and we'll tell you what's genuinely included (drinks brands, à la carte dining, snacks and sports) before you book.

Malta holidays from London

We package Malta holidays from London Gatwick, London Heathrow, London Luton and London Stansted, with a choice of airlines, flight times and baggage options. Prices and availability change daily, so ask us for a live quote for your dates.

Malta holidays from London Luton

Yes — we regularly book Malta holidays from London Luton as well as London Gatwick, London Heathrow and London Stansted. Regional departures are often cheaper than London once you factor in parking and transfers to the airport, and we'll always price both for you.

Malta holidays for teenagers

Teenagers do well in Sliema, St Julian's or Qawra, where they can walk safely to shops, cafés and the seafront. Diving and snorkelling courses, jet skis, the Comino Blue Lagoon boat trips, Popeye Village and the water park at Bugibba all go down well, and 16-year-olds can legally be served alcohol in Malta when accompanied — worth knowing before you choose all-inclusive.

Qawra vs St Paul's Bay

They sit on the same bay and blend into each other. Qawra is the resort end — bigger hotels, the promenade, the water park and most of the all-inclusive properties, so it's the better family choice. St Paul's Bay is more residential and Maltese, with smaller hotels and apartments, cheaper eating out and a quieter evening. If you want everything on the doorstep pick Qawra; if you want value and local life pick St Paul's Bay and walk round to Qawra in 15 minutes.

Best time to visit Malta

May, June, September and October are the sweet spot — 24–29°C, warm sea and manageable crowds. July and August are hot (30°C+) and busiest, but the sea is at its warmest. April and November are excellent for sightseeing and walking at lower prices, though the sea feels cool. Malta stays mild all winter, which makes it a good short-break destination year-round.

Malta airport transfers

Malta International Airport is central: 15–20 minutes to Sliema and St Julian's, 25–30 minutes to Qawra and Bugibba, 35–45 minutes to Mellieħa, and around 1 hour 15 to Gozo including the ferry. We can include shared shuttles or private transfers in your package, and private cars are inexpensive here — usually the better option with children or late-night flights.

Malta holiday prices

As a guide, 7 nights bed & breakfast in Sliema in May starts from around £450–£650 per person including flights and transfers, all-inclusive family hotels in Qawra run roughly £700–£950 per person in peak August, and 5-star Valletta or St Julian's stays sit around £900–£1,300 per person. Book early for August and half term — Malta sells out.

7-night Malta holidays

Seven nights is the classic Malta trip and works perfectly: allow two days for Valletta and the Three Cities, a day for Mdina and the west coast, a boat day to Comino and Gozo, and the rest by the pool or beach. Most flights operate on the standard 7-night pattern, so 7-night packages are usually the best value.

Malta holidays under £2,500

Easily. A family of four can typically do 7 nights all-inclusive in Qawra or Mellieħa for well under £2,500 in shoulder season, and two adults can stay 5-star for a week in Valletta or St Julian's for the same. Tell us your budget and we'll build the best holiday that fits inside it rather than pushing you past it.
